ACTIVIDADES DOCENTES
Clases teóricas
Las sesiones teóricas incluirán presentaciones por el profesor así como resúmenes, revisiones y debate de las lecturas por parte de los estudiantes.
The theoretical sessions will include presentations given by the professor, as well as summaries, reviews and discussion of the contents of texts read by the students.

Seminarios
En las sesiones prácticas los estudiantes realizarán ejercicios que refuercen los conocimientos adquiridos y se familiarizarán con el manejo de recursos y herramientas para las diferentes fases de un trabajo de investigación.
In the practical sessions, students will carry out exercises that reinforce the knowledge acquired and will become familiar with the management of resources and tools for the different phases of a research project.

Introducción a las fases, métodos y técnicas para la realización de trabajos de investigación en lingüística inglesa.
Introduction to the phases, methods and techniques used in research in English linguistics.

Objetivos
Al finalizar el curso se pretende que el estudiante conozca las diferentes fases de un trabajo de investigación del área de lingüística, conozca los métodos y técnicas principales, tanto cualitativas como cuantitativas, para cada una de dichas fases, sea capaz de entender y evaluar la metodología de trabajos existentes, y pueda acometer el diseño de un trabajo propio de investigación siguiendo una metodología científica.
At the end of the course, students will be familiar with the different phases of a research project in the field of linguistics and the main methods and techniques, both qualitative and quantitative, used in each of these phases, will be able to understand and evaluate the methodology of existing works and will be able to undertake the design of their own research project following a scientific methodology.
Contenido
Introducción a los métodos de investigación: ¿qué es la investigación (científica)?, pasos básicos a la hora de planificar/redactar proyectos de investigación.
Antecedentes de la investigación: elegir un buen tema y un buen título, identificar las preguntas de investigación, redactar la introducción, utilizar recursos y gestores bibliográficos, redactar el marco teórico y la revisión bibliográfica, redactar un resumen.
Metodología de la investigación: diseños de investigación, descripción de los datos (variables, muestra y población), recogida de datos, aspectos éticos de la recogida de datos, análisis de los datos (estadística descriptiva e inferencial).
Pautas básicas para escribir en inglés académico: uso del inglés académico, uso de las palabras de otros, anotaciones y convenciones lingüísticas.
Introduction to research methods: what is (scientific) research?, basic steps when planning/writing research projects.
Research background: choosing a good topic and a good title, identifying research questions, writing the introduction, using bibliographic resources and references managers, writing the theoretical framework and literature review, writing an abstract.
Research methodology: research designs, describing the data (variables, sample and population), data collection, ethical issues to data collection, analyzing the data (descriptive and inferential statistics).
Basic guidelines in writing academic English: using academic English, using others' words, linguistic notation and conventions.
Evaluación
La evaluación será continuada a lo largo del curso y se realizará una prueba o actividad práctica final. Se valorará la participación en clase, la cooperación en grupo, la realización puntual de las diversas tareas, la presentación de resultados de ejercicios prácticos y la calidad de los ejercicios y proyectos presentados.
Assessment will have a highly practical character, including, in addition to the results obtained in the tests that the instructor o the instructor can carry out, the realization of activities and practical works related to the knowledge purchased and/or the tools used.
Assessment will be continued throughout the course and a final test or practical task will be carried out. Class participation, group cooperation, task completion, that presentation of results of practical exercises and the quality of the exercises and projects presented will be valued.

El trabajo personal del alumno consiste en: lecturas obligatorias, revisión crítica de trabajos publicados, y planificación de un trabajo de investigación aplicado a un problema lingüístico determinado utilizando las técnicas y métodos estudiados.
Students' personal work consists of: compulsory readings, critical review of published works, and planning a research work applied to a specific linguistic problem using the techniques and methods studied.
